How to EFT for Yourself While Tapping on Someone Else

It can be traumatic for us when we witness others' tapping. Even if we do not feel it immediately, we can easily carry it with us as more and more builds up with further experiences; and then we would end up with an unnecessary energy disruption. This can be totally avoided by tapping ourselves as we share in others' tapping.
I would personally not watch an EFT tapping session such as on DVD or YouTube without tapping on myself as well. I also always tap myself during client sessions.
And there are many situations where one may be tapping on another. Some practitioners prefer to tap on their clients. And although in some places in the world, there are rules against physical contact with a client, for most EFT practitioners elsewhere there are times when we need to tap on our client. For example, the client may be abreacting, and a great way to quickly calm the situation is to tap the client into peace. Or a client may be in hypnosis, relaxed during a massage or Reiki session, or having another treatment where they would be too relaxed to tap for themselves. Another example is a carer tapping on an elderly relative or someone with severe arthritis whose mobility does not allow tapping. And while most people tapping for animals or babies would use their own body for the animal or baby, some prefer to tap on special adaptations of the EFT points either side of the animal's back or on the baby's face and body points.
So how do you tap for yourself on those occasions when you are tapping on another? It really is very simple; surrogate-tap on them for you! This is how I do it. My training with Reiki was to always ask my God/The Universe if inappropriate to ask the client. So I start by asking permission. Then I ask for psychic protection around me and the person or animal I am tapping on. This allows only good energy to come into the healing space and keeps out any unnecessary influences. I also thank God/The Universe for the healing. Then I ask that every time I tap on the person or animal, their body is used as a surrogate for me too. And then I start the tapping. I always choose to participate in the other's release, explaining to those I tap on that I connect to them energetically and may yawn (my body's way of letting go) when they release energy disruptions. This means that the client never has to release for me, as I do more than my share of the release anyway. When we finish, I visualize breaking the energetic bond between me and the other person or animal. I see it as a golden thread, and I see it being severed and each strand returned to its owner. Then I give gratitude again for the healing, and we are done.
This is how it works for me. You may wish to adapt my technique to suit your way of doing things. EFT is so versatile, it is amazing what you can do with it!
