Missing a Loved One

By Suzanne Zacharia

"Gina" (not her real name) came to see me for an EFT session today. She was upset, because her mother had left the country to live with her other sisters and explore a new continent. Gina lived with her mother all her life, except for when she was married for about a couple of years.

At the beginning of the session, I asked Gina how intense she felt when I said "I miss my mother." It was a 7 out of 10. We then tapped on various different aspects. The statements were consructed as me addressing Gine, since I was tapping on her. We tapped on the following.

The hole this left - "Even though this leaves a hole within you, you can accept yourself anyway".

  • The days she spent crying - "Even though you were crying, you can deeply accept yourself".
  • Finding some of her mother´s stuff in her rroom when she prepared to move into it (a flat-sharer was going to take over Gina´s room - "Even though it hurts to see her stuff, it brings it all back, you are strong, and that love between you will always be ther, no matter what the distance".
  • Having to be truly independent for the first time ever (Gina is in her 40s) - "Even though you are looking at this new responsibility, it's a new challenge, and an exciting new beginning, you can take it one step at a time, and that's OK". The choice of words here were Gina's. She had been to see her psychologist, who pointed out to her that this is a great start for Gina to find herself.

The intensity went down to a 4 out of 10, and then went down further, although by then Gina was so relaxed, I chose not to ask her for a number but let her rest into a gentle guided tapping meditation. This was done by taping on her whilst I guided her through a 5-minute relaxation to a paradise island.

Gina left much lighter, with a smile on her face. Thank you Gina for allowing me to write your story!

Wow, Suzanne, this story perfectly resonates for me today. My Mom died last summer. She has gone on to another "continent" without me! I have spent days crying missing her. I have had to go through some of her things, I've run into her things by accident. I am facing becoming self sufficient in a new way without my Mother being with me. Thank you for sending in this story. It gives me lots to work with.
