Self-Acceptance and Self-Love

An Unusual Case Study

In my experience, if someone loves themselves only 2-20%, that can be a block to progress. If so, working on the specific events leading to this low number, combined with working on the self-love/self-acceptance directly can bring about the best results.

So I have been gently and gradually taking Katie in this direction in each session while we worked on various incidents. In the latest session we had, Katie started by telling me that she had been officially diagnosed with a candida overgrowth. This explained why she liked sugar and refined foods so much, as well as of course emotional factors. I also explained that I find people that get a candida overgrowth which takes over their mindbody like this also have a confused immune system. In other words, when the body gets mixed messages about what to accept and what to fight, it ends up accepting pathogens, such as candida. I said that I find if someone accepts themselves less than 50% then they are likely to reject the candida less than 50%. Put differently, they are more likely to accept the pathogen and fight themselves, which leads to ill-health. At this point, Katie said "Oh I think I accept the candida 80%".

I asked Katie how much she accepted herself, and she said 20%. By the way, I tend to measure positive statements in percentages to avoid confusion.

We started by taking the edge off with something like "Even though I accept myself only 20%, I accept that I do so anyway".

To be little more specific with such a general issue, I have developed a technique of using different sections of the body. For example, I draw a stick figure of the client and put a line horizontally or vertically, and I ask the client which section of them is the part they accept. That gives us more to hone in on and often leads to specific events.

I drew Katie, who was on the phone elsewhere on the globe, so I also told her what I drew. I explained that I drew her with a vertical line straight down the middle, so we could locate where the 20% resides. Katie immediately replied that this was very stressful to her, explaining that whenever an energy therapist had tried to integrate her left and right sides, Katie felt it was very dangerous. She called it a "primal fear". Although in some distress about it, Katie chose to work on this aspect.

I asked what number Katie got for what I called "left-right discord" and she said 8. We tapped a round or so of "Even though I have this primal fear..." to take the edge off. Then Katie told me where the vertical line was to her. She said it came in from the left and stopped there 20% in. The rest of her was "unformed". She said this felt like it went way back, even around or before conception. So we tapped "Even though I have this deep cellular memory, maybe from my conception..."

The SUDS went down to 7 for "left-right discord". I asked Katie where she felt it in her body. She said "it catches the breath in my chest". So we tapped on "Even though it catches the breath in my chest..."

After a couple of rounds like this, Katie said that she felt a forceps memory was attached to the left-right discord (to do with her birth). So we tapped the Setup "Even though I have this forceps memory, I am willing to tap with Suzanne about it."

But Katie had to spell out "forceps" as she could not say it. The reminder was "Forceps", which Katie had to spell out.

We even tried "Even though I can't say 'forceps'..." and Katie still had to spell it out.

So far, we had been tapping on all the points from the TOP OF HEAD to the UA, with the 9-Gamut thrown in every now and then. But I felt an intuition to go to the legs and use the Setup statement there.

We tapped on the left ANKLE point "Even though

I can't say forceps..." and Katie managed to say it! Great, I thought! But, we proceeded to tap the right ankle point, and we went back to the spelling! So back to the left ankle point, and Katie easily said the word. We were both pleasantly surprised. So I tried the right knee point (as per Bashful Bladder on the Beyond the Basics DVDs), and Katie could not say the Reminder of "Forceps". We tried the left knee point, and hey presto! Katie managed to say it.

We were very intrigued, both of us, observing this process unfold. I moved up the body, going to the BN point and moving up, point by point on each side. We tried different variations of tapping statements, different points, ad both sides of the body, one at a time. We found that Katie could say the Reminder of "Forceps" on the left leg but not on the right leg points. However, she was eventually able to say this Reminder on the right ankle but could only utter "forceps" as part of the Setup on the right knee, as well as other points further up the body! Since when we said it as a Setup, she could now say it, this to me suggested some kind of PR, and Katie agreed.

We figured out there must have been some kind of forceps trauma between the right ankle and knee, which we will work on in the next session.

After this "forceps" adventure around Katie's body, lo and behold... Katie could accept herself 40%!

Katie said that the vertical line moved to 40% inwards from the left. And the SUDS for "left-right discord" went down to 4. We were absolutely fascinated and by then over an hour had elapsed and Katie had to go, so we concluded at that point.

And, by doing this session, we doubled Katie's self-acceptance, and all in just over an hour.

One of the more unusual EFT treatments...
